You saved Red Hill!

In 2017, community support helped protect the iconic entrance to Carbondale by raising over $1 million to enable AVLT to purchase the commercially-zoned, private land at the base of the Red Hill Recreation Area. Today this land protects access to your public lands, and Carbondale’s prominent red rock face will remain scenic and welcoming for all, for all time.

Together with the Town of Carbondale, Garfield County, Pitkin County, the Bureau of Land Management, Red Hill Council, Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, and your support, we fixed the dangerous jumble of trail users and vehicles along County Road 107 that historically provided access to Red Hill.

Thanks to donor support and the efforts of our partners, the gateway to Red Hill has been relocated away from the county road and onto 25 acres of newly protected land with new access trails and an improved parking lot and trailhead for trail users.

THANK YOU! A massive outpouring of support saved Red Hill in less than five months. Red Hill Recreation Area is one of the most accessible and heavily used recreation areas in the Roaring Fork Valley, allowing ALL of our neighbors to connect to the beauty and nature around us.

Special thanks to the Ruth H. Brown Foundation, Alpenglow Foundation, the Ark Foundation, Abigail Wexner, the Town of Carbondale, Garfield County, Pitkin County, Dee Blue, Sherri Draper, Jeff Bier & Coldwell Banker Mason Morse, the Low family, Nancy Quisenberry, River Valley Ranch Open Space Fund, Wild Waters Foundation, and over 300 individual donors for helping lift this project into reality.
